Paul J. Giannone

Born into a blue-collar immigrant family in upstate New York, Paul Giannone found his calling in the chaos of the Vietnam War as an Army medic. His experiences transformed him from a conservative small-town boy to a man with a mission to make a difference for the victims of man-made and natural disasters around the world.

The author has found himself a participant in some of the most dramatic and horrific events of the past half century—America’s defeat in Vietnam and the subsequent “boat people” crisis; the fall of the Shah of Iran; the unspeakable acts committed by violent groups in sub-Saharan Africa, the tension along the Pakistan-Afghan border following 9-11, and the flood of refugees unleashed by the war in Syria.
